Remember the good old debauchery filled and riff ridden days and nights of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath? The days when you could be bludgeoned into deafness by a Marshall amp turned up to 11? And a guitar solo could raise the hair on the back of your neck?
Vancouver stoner rock/psychedelic power trio Crimson Roots do. They will be bringing psychedelic instrumental group TroCrimson Roots plays
the Slice, May 19 with Lustre Creame and Trophy Wife. Photo submittedphy Wife to play a gig with local progressive rockers Lustre Creame at the Slice, May 19.
“It’s a big stew pot of  funk, progressive rock and jazz, but I just like to call it rock and roll,” said drummer, Aaron  Marsh, calling during his coffee break from his day job in construction.
The Vancouver duo includes Marsh and fellow New Brunswicker, guitarist William Duplain who had been playing in bands together since high school and who relocated to Vancouver within months of each other and then met bassist Dustin Toth in 2007.
“We met Dustan and Crimson Roots was born after only one night of jamming,” he enthused adding the band released their debut CD ‘Callous’ in March.
“Response has been good. Georgia Straight, the big music magazine out here added it to their instant playlist. So it’s been good. There has been quite a bit of response to our psychedelic freakouts,” he said adding he is looking forward to taking the show on the road and kicking off their tour in Lethbridge, which will be followed by gigs in Calgary, Edmonton and back through B.C. Lustre Creame will be joining them on the rest of their Albertan tour.
“This is our very first road trip, so we’re all  pretty stoked about it. And we’re looking forward to playing with them,” he continued.
“Our live show is a little more intense, but it is pretty much reflected by the CD,” he said.
Crimson Roots will be back in Calgary at the end of August, which they hope will be part of a cross Canadian tour.
“Two of us are from new Brunswick and we really want to trudge back home for a visit and then come back,” he said.
The show begins at 9 p.m.
