If you want to see the next generation of local rock stars, check out  the G. S. Lakie Middle School’s first “Rock Show” happening this Monday through Wednesday.

“We have all eras or styles represented,” said teacher Sheldon Arvay, who along with teachers  Don Ponech and Dave Mikuliak, have been “working their butts off since the first day of school” to mould 120 kids from the school’s rock  and roll program, the Grade 8 rock band class, their guitar program, the choir and the traditonal jazz band programs plus the cheerleaders (who will be dancing) into one gigantic rock and roll behemoth.

“It’s 120 kids on stage, it’s a full professional, big stage, a light show from Bullet Audio and a jumbotron,” Arvay described adding the three teachers chose a variety of material to teach the kids to play, ranging from disco to  the Blues Brothers along with an Elvis set plus sets featuring the music of Journey and Twisted Sister among others.

“The school’s administration including the principal have all been really supportive of what we are doing. This school is very big for fine arts,” Arvay described adding they would like to do a similar show every other year.

 There are six of the school’s bands involved including students aged 12-14.
“We switching off on the bands, six times. They are playing phenomenally for that age,” Arvay enthused adding they have been working hard since the first day of school.

 He said the students have really embraced the “old” music.

“Especially the Journey set, which is huge because of Glee,” he said.

“And we have the kids dressed up as Elvis during the Elvis set,” he said.
The show runs at 7 p.m, Monday, Oct. 25-27.
