Eclectic week of laughter, loudness and great music

April winds down with an eclectic selection of entertainment happening.


 Tonight there are several excellent shows happening.

 After that finishes, things heat up at the Slice with indie rock/ roots groups the matinee and  the Fast Romantics performing.

Then, get over hump day with laughter at the Owl Acoustic Lounge’s stand up comedy open mic, Wednesday, April 26.
That same night, if you missed them at the Casino on the weekend, or just want a second helping of the blues, local blues rock band  Zojo Black play the Slice.


There is an array of music happening on the weekend, with an emphasis on country and folk music.
 Winnipeg bluegrass band the D-Rangers are back together and stopping by the Slice, Friday, April 28 for what should be an exceptionally energetic and sweaty show at the Slice. They will  be performing with fellow Winnipegger, indie folk musician Okay Mann aka Katlin Mathison and  Edmonton indie folk trio Post Script.
The Red Hot Hayseeds are at the Owl Acoustic lounge on Friday, April 28 as well.


For the complete opposite to that, The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra Museaus Extras series features Strings Sing at the Cité des Prairies at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are $25 for the concert or $50 for the full experience including  dessert and a meet and greet before the concert. the program features Alexander Borodin String Quartet No 2 (Scherzo & Nocturne)
Léo Delibes — Flower Duet from Lakmé; Franz Schubert —Death and the Maiden Quartet and
Giuseppe Verdi — String Quartet in E Minor (Scherzo & Trio) .


 For the opposite again, the Smokehouse is starting to host more shows.
Local hard rock band Outrun the Arrow will be performing with Vancouver’s Sleep Science. The show begins at 9 p.m. There is a $10 cover.

 Casino Lethbridge features a fun couple of evenings of  eclectic entertainment as the Diva Cabaret returns, April 28 and 29. There will be drag, comedy and lots of fun both nights. Tickets are $20 for the show, which begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are selling very fast for this  event presented by Lethbridge Pride Fest.

It is a relatively slow Saturday night, but there are some key shows happening.


 Comedian Rick Mercer from the Rick Mercer Report and This Hour has 22 Minutes, will be speaking about what it means to be Canadian at the Enmax Centre, April 29 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $69 and $79 for the show which is more keynote address rather than comedy.
 The Slice hosts a cool country and roots  show with Vancouver musician Petunia, who will be joined by Nathan Godfrey. There is a $10 cover.


 if you just want to dance this weekend. There is a special LEMF fundraiser happening at Attainable Records, April 29 featuring Calgary’s Robbie C, Lethbridge’s Erwin the Intern, Streeter, MIllz Skillz DJ Fuze, Steve Samurai and more,
 And May begins with a roar as New Zealand based thrash metal band West of hell hit the Smokehouse with Vancouver groove metal band  Revenger. The show begins at 7 p.m. There is a $15 cover.


The Smokehouse as also restarted their open mic nights.
 Daylan Delaney hosts an open mic on Tuesday for their first Tuesday of the month. There are also open mics on the third Friday of the month. They begin  at 8 p.m.
The Slice is also starting to do more early week shows again. So May madness continues on May 2 with Winnipeg acoustic pop band Alone I Walk.
 They will be joined by local rock bands Biloxi Parish, JJ Thomas,  and the Rainbow Patrol. Admission is $10.
