Christmas events and Michael Bernard Fitzgerald among week’s highlights

December inevitably means Christmas and a cornucopia of Christmas related activities with a couple of them happening this week.


But first, Calgary based singer songwriter Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, who his known for his big hit ‘I Want to Make it With You,’ returns to Lethbridge to play the Slice on Wednesday, Dec. 6.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Brandon based ’70s inspired pop and rock band The Middle Coast are also on the bill.


 Local funk rock trio Adequate funk up the Slice on  Friday, Dec. 8. There will be a $10 cover for the show, which begins at 10 p.m.
 The next night, Dec. 9,  the Terrific Kids Collective, who put on great  alternative and indie rock shows throughout the year, are holding s karaoke fundraiser at the Slice to help them continue bringing in excellent shows. There will also be a raffle for prizes donated by the Owl Acoustic Lounge and Blueprint and Round Table board games to name a few. Admission is five dollars.


Local blues/ folk duo Jenn and Paul  Kype return to Casino Lethbridge Dec. 8 and 9.
HBO3 and Josh Davies host two jazz jams at the owl Acoustic lounge, Dec. 6 and Dec. 20.
The Owl is closed for a Christmas party, Dec. 9, but feature the Griffins, Dec. 8.


One many Christmas events is at Exhibition Park, Dec. 9 with a special holiday edition of the Lethbridge Handmade Market beginning at 10 a.m.
 There will be a variety of activities including a bracelet workshop, kids crafts including making your own stocking, Christmas ornament weaving, plus food sampling and over 100 different vendors offering a variety of services including skincare, jewelry, tarot cards, wood toys and much more.

 Another Christmas  tradition happens at Southminster United Church, Dec. 9.

 The Lethbridge Community Silver and Gold  Band present the 26th annual Mayors Christmas concert beginning at 7 p.m. The Southern Accord Chorus and country musician Steve Newsome are also on the bill. Admission is $15 and free for 12 and under. They will also be accepting unwrapped gifts for the  Angel Tree Christmas campaign


The big Christmas event of the week is a visit by the CP Rail Holiday Train, which stops by on Sunday, Dec. 10 behind the old Save on Foods at 2nd Ave. North & 12th St.  Great Big Seas Alan Doyle and his Beautiful band will be performing a quick set at 7 p.m. The train rolls in at 6:45. Bring donations of cash or non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the Lethbridge Food bank.


Shakespeare in the Park keeps Christmas close to their heart as they present their second annual fundraiser Shakespeare Meets Dickens in the ATB Casa community room, Tuesday, Dec. 10.
 The night opens with a reader’s theatre of  Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol, ” adapted by retired U of L professor Richard Epp. There will be Victorian and Tudor inspired food and drink, and after that plenty of Shakespeare inspired songs and favourite Christmas carols.
 Tickets are $15 for the show, which begins at 7 p.m.


Also on Dec. 10, relive the ’60s  at the Southminster United Church with Oh What A Night! A Musical Tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The Show begins at  7 p.m. Tickets are $63.50.
 The Nutcracker is a popular Yuletide tradition. There will be several performances of the popular opera in mid December at the University Theatre featuring the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra, University of Lethbridge Conservatory Choirs and  community ballet dancers.
 Unfortunately the Dec. 15-17 run is sold out.
