Plenty of punk and plays to round out May

May goes out with a bang.

 There are a lot of punk / rock/ metal  shows with week, the One Act Play Festivals provincials and much more happening this week.

 The Owl Acoustic Lounge’s weekly open mic is tonight, Tuesday, May 23.

 Don Robb and  Randy Epp aka the Standard time duo return to the Watertower Grill on Wednesday. As usual on the last Wednesday of the month, Teri Petz hosts and open mic at the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Wednesday.

 Then things  get loud.

 The first big punk show of the week features Calgary thrash / punk band Citizen Rage  returning to the Slice in support of their first full length CD “harsh Reality.”  They will be joined by No More Moments, Berserker and then Hockey Moms. 

 The early show begins at a 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 in advance.

 Theoretically Brewing has a punk show on the patio on Thursday with Vancouver post punk band Aversions and AaronTrozzo’s new musical project A Trozzo Electric.

 Admission is pay what you can with a suggested donation of $10.

 

The Slice has a big three day musical extravaganza as they bring back Slicefest, beginning on Friday, May 26  with  Chilliwack folk/rock/ punk/ ska band Like Bears plus local favourites the Hockey Moms and Hell Diablo.

It’s indie rock night on Saturday , May 27 as Edmonton’s Scenic Route to Alaska returns to the Slice with  local Favourites Bailey Kate and Queen of the Worms.

 Slicefest finishes with a laid back country night on Sunday, May 28 with  Tyler Humphreys, Dark Wrangler, Corduroy Brown and Makiisma playing an early show beginning at 3:30 p.m.

 

 Admission for all three days of Slicefest is $30 for all three days or $15 per day.

 

Now the smoke is gone and the weather is beautiful, knock on wood, there is music in Festival square outside Telegraph Taphouse on Thursday nights.

 Tom Price performed  last Thursday, this Thursday Daylan Delaney will be performing.

There are a variety of shows happening on the weekend. Uncovered will be playing all your favourite hits at Casino Lethbridge Friday and Saturday.

 It is a homecoming night at the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Friday, May 26

 Matt Epp returns to Lethbridge to play with now Toronto based musician Jesse Northey and Nora Kotkas. It is a ticketed event. Tickets cost $20.

 

The Owl has a great alt country/ roots show on Saturday with Edmonton country quintet Denim Daddies and Saskatchewan trio the Garrys. 

 

 The Chevelles are back to rock the stage at the Place, this time in support of The Lethbridge Amateur Wrestling Association. Tickets are $20. the rock starts and 9 p.m.

 

 The Ten Ten Pub features  Ryan O’Brien and Adrian and Jamie Kaufman.

 Honkers Pub has a hot weekend of open mics planned with Paul Kype hosting on Friday, May 26.

 Saints and Sinners return to tear up Honkers Pub’s  stage in Saturday.

 

There are a couple of new venues starting in Lethbridge.  Blowers and Grafton ( 3720 Mayor Magrath Drive South) is starting to feature live music. This week, the Ebbs aka  Brock Grills band Brendon Levandosky will be performing.

 Edmonton “hybrid” metal band Fall of Earth play another new venue, the Studio  ( 1287 3rd Ave South) on Saturday, May 27 at 9 p.m. They have released a couple  new videos. “ From the Ashes” and  Block out the Sun.”

 Revanchist is also on the bill. Admission is $20. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. The music begins at 9:30 p.m. 

 

 Last, but not least, a new blues / southern rock band, Dufferin Street band play a fundraiser for McNally Community centre, Saturday, May 27. The show begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $10

There is plenty of drama this week. Playgoers of Lethbridge host Provincial One Act play Festival this weekend at the Yates Theatre, May 26 and 27. The fun begins at 7:30 p.m. on May 26. There are two sessions on Saturday— 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for a festival pass or $10 per session.

 

 And Good Times welcomes the DIY Comedy Tour with  Scott Porteous, Frank Russo and Mike Payne performing both nights beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $19.95.

 

 Didi’s Playhaus hosts impromptu’s latest instalment of their improvised soap opera Gommorrah inc, Saturday, May 27. Admission is pay what you can. Doors open at 6 p.m.  the show begins at 7 p.m.
