The Galt Museum opened a new travelling exhibit “ Worlds Imagined,” Friday, Sept. 27.

The exhibit , created by the Cushing Memorial Library Texas A & M University , runs at the Galt Museum until Jan. 5.
“One of our volunteers read a blog about it thought it would be fun to bring it to Lethbridge. We’re the only place it is traveling to,” said Galt Museum Creator Aimee Benoit, noting it reminds her of reading the source material to her kids.

The exhibit features close to 50 maps of worlds explored in a cornucopia of video games like Street Fighter and well known science fiction universes like Star Trek, Star Wars, Battle Star Galactica, classic sci fi from H.G. Wells, and worlds from well know works of fiction like the Marauder’s Map from Harry Potter, J.R.R Tolkien’s  Middle Earth, Game of Thrones and Terry Pratchett’s Ankh-Morph from his “Discword” Series, which has two separate maps.
There is even a map of all the places Ian Fleming’s James Bond has visited.

There are also interactive components to the exhibit  including magnifying glasses to examine some of the intricate detail, and building blocks so patrons can build their own worlds.
Galt Museum’s Brad Brown created a replica of the Game of Thrones throne, which  people can sit on and get their picture taken with and hopefully spread the world.
“ My favourite maps are of the Land of Oz and the Princess Bride,” Benoit enthused, adding she hopes people will connect with their own favourites.
“ I hope it will help people to use their imaginations,” she said.

“It has historical value with how people connect to these places they’ve read about or seen in movies,” she said.

The Galt Museum will be welcoming classes of students to see the exhibit and there will be  a lot of programming coming up related to the exhibit.

The public programs scheduled at the Galt over the next several months also tie in closely with the exhibit.

“We are really pleased with the lineup of lectures and presentations this fall that further explore the theme Worlds Imagined,” said Janae Redgrave, Galt Museum Community Program Coordinator in a press release.
“From lectures and presentations to hands-on activities for all ages, we are exploring the topics in the exhibit throughout the season in these programs for the public.” The events are listed at https://www.galtmuseum.com/events
