For seven years, the Celtic-roots trio Glencoulee has played its lively brand of music in Alberta and British Columbia, while recording three CDs in the process: Glencoulee at The Empress, Meeting of the Waters and The Rare Old Stuff. The band still offers a lively blend of Atlantic Canadian, Irish and Scottish tunes, but has expanded with its own music, all of it celebrating Canada's history and, in particular, Alberta's past. The group's third CD, Glencoulee at The Empress, has 19 original tunes.

Based in Lethbridge, Southern Alberta, Glencoulee comprises Richard Burke, Ian Hepher and D'Arcy Kavanagh. The group plays plenty of local gigs, but has traveled to lots of other Alberta and B.C. destinations for concerts, festivals, weddings, pub nights and special events. The band has also done TV and radio work.

Glencoulee originally formed in 1998 with six members. But as happens in the music world, members dropped out due to other obligations. When Richard joined original members Ian and D'Arcy in late 2000, the blend of talents and personalities seemed ideal. Nothing has changed since.

These days, Glencoulee isn't focused on getting rich and famous - rich would be nice, though, and famous OK. It just wants to engage audiences with its music and storytelling. It's about having fun.

If you want know about the guys in the band, about their gigs or about their CDs, check out the rest of the website. There are even some video-audio clips of them in action at The Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod. The best idea? See them in person.
