There are two categories for this contest, which showcases southern Alberta songwriters—Best emerging artist for musicians who have not released a commercial CD and best experienced artists who have released a commercial CD. They had to submit a CD of their best song of any genre suited to a stripped down performance. The semi-finalists perform at the Slice where the winners will be chosen.
The winners receive $400 and a chance to perform their song at the South Country Fair plus a pair of weekend passes.
Heather Blush and the Uppercuts http://heatherblush.com/ or www.myspace.com/heatherblushtriples
Heather Blush and The Uppercuts are a trio of best friends who knock the
socks off every new audience they meet. Based in Calgary, Alberta,
their sound can be described as somewhere between the "Adult
Alternative" styles of Sarah Slean and Sarah Harmer, and old
"Ella/Louis-style" vocal jazz/blues. Heather’s voice is often compared
to Norah Jones, Maria Muldaur, and Joni Mitchell. With energetic,
audience-engaging shows, she is quickly becoming known for songwriting
that covers all bases between witty sarcasm and gutwrenching honesty.
With “Captain” Steve Hazlett on drums and “Cannonball” Shane Sutherland
on the upright bass, this trio packs a punch and leaves a lasting
impression.

We are the only bar in town featuring live music every day of the week. Canadian touring artists, local legends and new emerging artists, everyone stops here.
