"Raw Talent".... A day in the life at an office job. Spending a night alone waiting for a loved one to arrive.
Finding hope in the midst of overwhelming circumstances. These are the songs that come from Winnipeg raised singer/songwriter Marc Ross. Simple, honest and unpretentious.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba Ross found himself continually surrounded by music. Whether it was the household piano or church service every Sunday, music was a fundamental part of Marc's upbringing. Marc began his formal career at the young age of six when he was enrolled in piano lessons. At this point, his repertoire consisted mainly of Richard Marx and/or Bryan Adams… good start? From piano to saxophone to guitar, Marc found himself in high school where he started his first band, The Poetics.
A short demo was made and Marc's excitement for the studio and for song craft was beginning to become evident. Following the summer of his graduation, Ross capitalized on the opportunity to work as a roadie on a two month cross-Canada tour with the now Juno nominated group Starfield. A lofty dream suddenly became closer to home.
Between 2005 and 2007 Ross fronted the Winnipeg based band Elyon, where he developed as a performer and a songwriter. In 2007 Marc collaborated with Winnipeg singer/songwriter Jodi King on a 6 track EP titled ‘music for The arborist’.
Winnipeg’s own Grammy nominated/Juno award winning producer Adrian Bradford worked the pre-production sessions as well as the production for the project. From here, Ross capitalized on his new connections and began to cut demos with Bradford. The short project titled ‘3 songs’ was a product of these demos.
Between 2008 and 2010 Ross performed in and around Winnipeg with acts such as Jodi King, folk star Matt Epp and Quinzy. The largest slice of this pie was joining Jodi King’s backup band ‘The Wolves’ and also performing as a special guest on several of her Canadian tours.
In the summer of 2010 Marc took the trip down to LA to work again with producer Adrian Bradford on his debut EP ‘Blue Sky Behind’. The EP has since been gaining positive attention on both Canadian pop and college radio and has been well received on his western Canadian tour. Musically, Marc draws inspiration from a diverse spectrum of influences including Paul McCarney, John Mayer, Sufjan Stevens and others. With a knack for melody and lyrics that are accessible, Marc Ross’ music will be something you want to take home with you.
