Jess Hill is a singer-songwriter risen above the countless talented denizens of East Vancouver. She is a storyteller whose delicately constructed lyrical worlds are held firmly in place by her captivating compositions. Since releasing her debut album “Road” in 2006, Jess has been featured on CBC radio, performed at The Vancouver Folk festival, Vancouver International jazz festival, Artswells and numerous other festivals in BC.. A phenomenal stage performer in every way, Jess Hill invites her audience to join her in her own realm. Once there, her voice, storytelling capabilities and exceptionally crafted murder ballads will lull a room of strangers right into her palm where it crushes them with stunning emotional brevity and releases them reborn into the night.

Her upcoming album “Orchard,” recorded and produced by the multi-talented Aaron Joyce, pushes away from the dock of her folk roots, and onto the frontiers of new creative fires, and captivating arrangements. “Orchard” will be released in the fall of 2010.

“Immediately personable, she softly spoke into the mike as if she were whispering to her closest friend and she sang as if she were playing to an open field of dying flowers at twilight.”

“Jess Hill’s voice was spot on, barely trembling in all the right places.”

I write songs about the world in the spiderwebs, twisting around a rusted music box in the attic of your dreams...".. ..With a pawnshop's worth of instruments and a voice like rusted steel creaking in the wind, Folk Noir singer-songwriter and fiddler-for-hire ..Jeff Andrew.. is building a name for himself as one of Canada's most daringly original musicians. Whether solo or with his backing band ..Crows At Midnight.., he travels the country's highways, pounding his boots on rickety stages and hardwood floors, belting like a born-again carnival barker and turning a patchwork of folk, rock, punk, jazz and Celtic influences into a chronicle of life in the underground... ..Now based in Vancouver, BC, Jeff learned his craft during years spent hitchhiking, tree planting and busking all over North America. A major turning point came in 2006 when he found an abandoned fiddle in an alley in Portland, OR and began teaching himself to play. He cut his songwriting teeth that summer on the Alaska Highway, co-writing 'Dark, Now' with Sarah Noni Metzner and singing on her album ..Daybreak Mourning.. (Dog My Cat Records), which won Best Solo Artist at the 2007 Canadian Folk Music Awards... ..In 2008 Jeff formed the folk n' spoken word duo ..Ghosts of the Highway.. with fellow road poet shayne avec I grec. Together they released a compilation of recordings from across the country called ..Road Warriors Unite!.. (Shade Tree Records) and embarked on an epic, cross-Canada hitchhiking tour, from Vancouver Island to St. John's, NL. In 82 days they played over 60 shows in every bar, café, ferry, bookstore and streetcorner they could reach by thumb... ..2009 saw the release of Jeff's first full-length album, ..Vagabonds & Wastrels.. (Shade Tree Records). Produced by Corwin Fox and featuring classical bass virtuoso Tobias Meis, the album displayed a dazzling range of songwriting styles, from topical ballads like the haunting 'Truck Stop Wall' (about missing women on northern BC's Highway of Tears) to gutter-strewn travel narratives, edgy, political protest songs and what can only be called 'Horror Folk'. It debuted at #5 on CFUV's Roots charts, was added to CBC's national database and received airplay and critical acclaim across Canada and in Western Europe... ..2010 has been Jeff's busiest year yet. So far he's completed his fourth cross-country tour (including 3 days spent working as the 'on-board musician' on a VIA Rail train), taken another run on the Western Canada festival circuit and released the self-produced, zine-style disc ..The Treehouses & Trainsmoke EP.. (Shade Tree Records). Preparations are now underway for a reunion with Fox and Meis to record his second full-length album, ..Hobo Postcards.. (Shade Tree Records), set for release in spring 2011... ..Since 2008, Jeff has toured and recorded as a fiddler with Vancouver's notorious country-punk outfit ..The Joey Only Outlaw Band.. and shared stages with the likes of Geoff Berner, Carolyn Mark, CR Avery, Rae Spoon, Wax Mannequin and Jason Webley. He's performed at the Brandon Folk, Music & Art Festival, the ArtsWells Festival, the Robson Valley Music Festival, Open Sky Revival, South Country Fair and the final installment of Under The Volcano (with the Joey Only Outlaw Band). He's also a founding member of the folk-punk travel network ..Westbound Collective.. (with frequent collaborators Ursula and The Rough Sea) and cross-country touring spectacles the ..Folk Circus From The Sea.. and the ..Shade Tree Revue
