A folk hip-hop pioneer, Jimi Maze blends a country drawl with lyrical rhymes to create a soundtrack for the train-hopping hitchhiker in all of us... What? A singer, songwriter, DJ, MC and guitarist, Jimi Maze has merged his love for the microphone with twangy rock, forming a traveling band of bluegrass musicians. With a classic country drawl Jimi is backed up by his band – a banjo, guitar, double bass and accordion, all stomping along to his hip-hop lyrical approach. Born in southern Ontario (Canada!) Jimi spent his youth hitchhiking, following The Grateful Dead, and living in a van. Today he spends his time recording, touring North America, and living in Toronto. Jimi Maze has toured every province and territory in Canada, 36 US states, and four continents.
Dave Lang updates the "American Songbook" in a way that only a Canadian outsider from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan could. He writes like Randy Newman and Cole Porter and he kids around like Louis Armstrong. His tunes are so good that musicians like Corb Lund, Geoff Berner and Neko Case have learned them, played them and loved them.
Lang has written music for film and television and received glowing reviews online and in print magazines such as The Georgia Straight and Spin. He has performed on television and radio including a live coast to coast CBC broadcast. He has toured all around Canada from Halifax to Tuktoyuktuk to his adopted home in Victoria, BC.
"Dave Lang is an original throwback to a time when subtlety and good humour meant something. A literate mind, with a touch of Tom Lehrer attached to a subversive heart. This is a show to experience.”- Mitch Podolak (Artistic Director, Home Routes & co-founder Winnipeg Folk Fest)
