From Saskatchewan’s prairie landscapes to the rolling hills and crashing tides of the East Coast, Kim Wempe is emerging as one of the freshest, most unique performers on the Canadian music scene.
Immediately recognized for her raw and powerful voice (think Ani DiFranco, Bonnie Raitt, Feist), Kim leaves an imprint on your soul and a melody in your mind. Weaving her lyrics and chord progressions through scattered notepads, Kim’s evocative artistic style and honest on-stage performance are one of a kind.
Since relocating to the East Coast from Western Canada, Kim has enjoyed invitations to share stages and stories with some of Canada’s favorite Maritime musical acts including Jill Barber, Christina Martin, Ryan Cook, Charlie A’Court, Norma MacDonald and Carmel Mikol. Her captivating live show has turned heads and hearts at festivals across the country from Evolve in Nova Scotia to Morfee Mountain in British Columbia and back to Halifax’s In The Dead of Winter Festival.
Kim’s budding career continues to build momentum with her upcoming album, Painting With Tides, due for release in the fall of 2009. Meanwhile, her first full-length album The Last Version (2007) captures a range of styles from soulful blues melodies, to jazz-influenced folk tunes. From the first track to the last, the album winds through sing-along songs, toe tapping rhythms and lyrics to ponder amid the rock/blues/roots atmosphere.
Carmel Mikol
Cape Breton born singer/songwriter Carmel Mikol is a storyteller, crafting songs with a provocative blend of truth, fiction and wit. Her upcoming album “In My Bones” is an impressive collection of ten original songs produced by Fred Lavery at the award-winning Lakewind Sound Studio and Scott Ferguson at Ferguson Music Productions. Guided by folk/rock sensibility, the album features warm acoustics, catchy electric guitar and ethereal lap steel. Carmel’s laidback vocals carry the songs with heart and honesty and beneath her modern cynicism is the timeless voice of another great Canadian songwriter.

"It's been a privilege working close to home in Cape Breton and sharing my first album experience with the incredible Fred Lavery and his Lakewind team," Mikol says. The album is already garnering attention with "Sunny Days" being featured on CBC Radio in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and "Escape To You" receiving airplay on several regional stations including Q104, CKDU and CKBW.

This summer Carmel embarks on the "Guess Who's Driving? Tour" with fellow Halifax singer/songwriter Kim Wempe. They launch the tour in Halifax then travel through Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C.

Earlier this year, Carmel released a digital EP entitled "Lost Lives" (now available on iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazonmp3 and LaLa), showcased at the 2009 East Coast Music Awards in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and received honorable mention for her song "Twenty Something Girl" in the 12th Annual Unisong Songwriting Contest.
