Fort Macleod, Alberta – Genuine acoustic bluegrass performed by Nova Scotia’s famed Spinney Brothers opens the Empress Theatre’s popular 2011 – 2012 Centre Stage Series this fall.
The Spinney Brothers

The Spinney Brothers fresh and traditional bluegrass will be performed by brothers and group founders Allan Spinney on guitar and vocals, and Rick Spinney on banjo and vocals on October 27 and 28 at 8 p.m in Fort Macleod.  Along side is Gary Dalrymple on mandolin, fiddle and vocals and Terry Mumford on bass and vocals.

Nova Scotia has a long standing history of enjoying and producing traditional bluegrass music dating back to the 1950s when a Kentville radio station popularized the music of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs.  The Spinney Brothers have maintained the tradition and popularity of bluegrass music in Nova Scotia and throughout Canada since 1992 when brothers Rick and Allan debuted their band with “a tight brother duet vocal style that was immediately recognized for its energetic and distinctive sound.”

Spinney Brothers are noted for their unique bluegrass sound, with a heavy banjo, mandolin and southern fiddle style that have brought them multiple awards and a huge fan base nation wide.  They have toured from coast to coast and south of the border from Maine to California.  In 2012, hard-core bluegrass and Spinney Brothers fans will cruise the Florida Keys and Mexico with this heavily awarded group.
