Buckman Coe. If he had a horse, he might be Samurai. But instead of waving a katana around, it would be an ukelele or a guitar. And he'd be singing down-home Americana, sun-sweetened folk and soul-drenched blues. You might ask yourself, "Who is this cheerful Mongol horseman?" because rather than crushing skulls with his bare hands he'd be squeezing a black accordion and soothing your soul with a voice purer than the look in his eye. There have been comparisons with Jeff Buckley, Ben Harper and Genghis Khan. But Buckman is more than the sum of his influences, and the musician slash yoga instructor is as interested in the health of the global consciousness and respect for the planet as he is a bunch of people getting together to listen to live music and dance.

"His mixture of folk with a worldbeat consciousness is in the same vein and company of Jack Johnson, Michael Franti and Ben Harper. Sunny Music that provokes thought"
~Tom Harrison, The Province

On March 20th, 2012 Buckman will release his new album By the Mountain's Feet through Tonic Records and Fontana North. He will be travelling to Memphis and New Orleans for a series of showcases, and will return in time to tour across the vast expanse of Canada. On a horse. The tour launch concert is at The Biltmore Cabaret in his hometown of Vancouver, BC March 16th. The album has already been heard on Canadian radio, reaching #4 on the earshot charts in Newfoundland, CBC, and into the US in California, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. It's getting rave reviews and this mountain climb has only just begun.

"By the Mountain's Feet is a bright and vibrant collection of warm wonderful sounds … His stories, like his vocals are thought out lyrical approaches to his craft. The caliber of players backing this collection of tunes is very thought out and only enhances the artist’s work."
~Christopher Anderson, Victory Music

Buckman Coe was recently voted second for Best Unsigned Band in the Georgia Straight Reader's Choice Awards owing to his captivating and enveloping solo performances and the excitement and groove of his accomplished band of Vancouver music-scene vets. The band features Brian Minato on bass, Mary Ancheta on keyboards, Jon Roper on electric guitar, and Sam Cartwright on drums. Formed during the creation of By the Mountain's Feet, the band is already working on new material and planning for the summer festival season.

Buckman's music and his message comes from his experiences studying the ecological and psychological effects of globalization while in England and Colorado, and from his time back in Canada living as a yogi, counsellor, and as a ecological and social citizen. Although music has taken the driver's seat, he feels that these other interests are not just side-pursuits but a part of the whole development of Buckman Coe. Since his first solo release Latest Waking in October 2009, he has appeared at Oregon Country Fair, Komasket Festival BC, Towards Eden Festival BC, Burning Man NV, Recompression SF, In the House Festival BC, Vancouver Fringe Festival (with a production of Siddhartha), and has toured BC, Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Ontario. He is a man driven by the magnificent message that music manifests.

"If this were 1973, back when singer-songwriters ruled the earth, Coe wouldn’t have much time for side pursuits—with a couple of breaks and a bit of AM radio airplay, he’d be busy cashing gold-record royalty cheques and house-hunting in Laurel Canyon."
~Mike Usinger, The Georgia Straight
