Albertan folk singer/guitar player Amy Bronson played her first show opening for Ronnie Hayward at the Lethbridge Folk Club when she was 15 years old. Shortly after, she became a frequent performer at free shows every Tuesday, known as the After School Special, usually sharing the stage with metal, punk, screamo and other loud bands. After releasing a couple low-fi, basement recordings of her peculiar folk music, her first moderately well done, full-length album was recorded during the cold winter of 2008. The album titled, “I’m allergic to this deodorant.”, is a collection of songs about laundry, Alberta politics, the heart, and biology.

Amy has recently acquired some band members that she calls “the Ingredient Readers”. Currently, there is Stanley Hartman on the drums, with Daniel Espelien on the bass. Together, they form an oddball crew complimentary to the high-energy, somewhat goofy, oddness Amy is known for when she presents her interesting lyrics and decent guitar riffs for the mixed-bag audience she attracts. Amy has shared shows with many acts that have come through Lethbridge over the years, some of the most recent including Cat Janke, The Fates, and Jodi King. Last year, she played the Lethbridge Roots and Blues Festival, the South Country Fair, the 2nd annual Art for Peace fundraiser, as well as many smaller shows in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and some other funny prairie towns. Amy is a versatile performer, having played at punk shows, church things, a little art gallery, Blueprint record shop in Lethbridge, bars, inside and outside festivals, a health food store, and even at 5am in a little gym for a workout class.

In the fall of 2008, Amy relocated to Guelph, Ontario where she is an International Development student and ponders the differences between eastern vs. western Canada. Now that Amy’s old enough and has the guts for it, she and the Ingredient Readers intend on enjoying the summer by touring across this vast country. If you get a chance, please come out to a show, or if you have any ideas of venues we ought to play, do let us know.
