Always an audience favourite, Bill Durst has long been compared to the best guitar player/singer/entertainers anywhere in the world. Bill has written and recorded over 100 songs on ten albums including eight charted Canadian radio hits. After the early success of his band Thundermug in North America and Europe, Bill was acclaimed as one of the top songwriters in Canada, signing with CBS (now Sony) Publishing, and releasing his first two solo albums in 1984 and 1989. In between these two albums, as a side gig, Bill played in ‘the biggest bar band in Canada’s Tres Hombres, a ZZ Top clone band, and that’s how he got his beard started!
In 1994 Bill co-wrote, produced, sang and played guitar on the cd ‘Who’s Running My World,’ released under the Thundermug name, which received forty two continuous weeks of nationally charted radio airplay and spawned three hit singles in Canada.
Bill performed with Aerosmith, Rush, Bob Seger, The Yardbirds, Sly and The Family Stone, George Thorogood, Bad Company, Jeff Healey, Edgar Winter Group, The Tubes, David Clayton Thomas, Savoy Brown, Little Feat, BTO, John Mayall, etc. and has toured across North America and Europe.
As for Bill’s live performance, Herman Goodden wrote “Durst delivers ‘feedback’ ‘echo effect,’ powerful singing, freak harmonic, buzz sawing bottle neck guitar and supercharged intensity are all components of Bill Durs’s showmanship. Durst, the legendary virtuoso guitarist, performed a radical re-interpretation of Jimi Hendrix‘s Little Wingâ which opened with some incredible mewings that he squeezed out of his fret board, suggesting an overhead migration of gigantic seagulls.
When you see Bill play or listen to his cds, you are in for a treat. Co-writing with friend and former Thundermug band mate Joe DeAngelis has resulted in a wonderful synthesis of fun and exiting blues, roots, rock music and an unforgettable cd “The Great Willy Mammoth“ featuring the full mature onslaught of a true artistic gem / world class guitar player / singer, songwriter / entertainer named Bill Durst.

Good For Grapes formed in September of 2010, after a group of friends took a trip to Victoria, BC for some modest busking. Since the moment they stepped onto the ferry, they were an attraction. Drawing unexpected crowds, naturally this young and aspiring band took form; an original and talented five piece group, with an array of harmonizing voices and instruments. Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, this folk / alternative act has been gaining momentum ever since they stepped into the music scene. Their live stage performance in this time has evolved into an incredibly active, folk stomping, and inviting energy; always resulting in an extremely enthusiastic and involved audience. Beginning by supporting charities and foundations, their unique folk sound has been accepted into a large variety of venues. Through this, they have gained a loyal fan base which grows at every turn.
In less than a year, the band recorded a 6 song EP which has been upheld by several reviews:
“From the first track, it becomes clear that this band has both unique talent and creativity among all five band members, combined with an expanding range of influences from Mumford & Sons to Bon Iver.”
“Good for Grapes makes each track individual and intriguing, hooking listeners as each song offers something new. Without knowing it, a handful of looped listens will go by with you humming along as if you’d known them for years.” – Amy Van Veen (UFV’s Sound Bites from “Cascades”)
