Scott Skirving
With
the interest of country music peaking at an early age in grade school,
it was inevitable life would lead Scott on this path in later years.
Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario, he found himself working the
local paper mill as it was the most practical and logical career choice
at the time. Becoming restless in this trade, he decided to leap and
hoped the bridge would appear, and he set out to pursue his musical
dream, leaving behind security for passion.
In 1998, Scott's
dreams were becoming a reality, recording three songs, two of the songs
received local airplay, “Just A State of Mind” and “Party All Night”.
With the country music scene becoming nonexistent in the Thunder Bay
area, he packed his bags and headed west, landing in Red Deer, AB.
Leaving behind his family was the hardest decision he had to make, but
knew for this to work, it was a choice he had to make. The first few
months, found Scott commuting to Calgary, taking country jams and
connecting with many artists. This commute was the beginning of the band
Skyward, which included lead guitarist, Kenny Sitter, Tim Mussell, and
Glen Riggs. Together they traveled throughout Western Canada promoting
themselves.
The year 2001 brought a close to the group Skyward and Scott found himself fronting the band Wrangler for the next year.
Wanting
to create and contribute so much more to country music, Scott found
himself on a plane back to Thunder Bay. Completing his Grade 12 as
Valedictorian and taking a two year Business Marketing Diploma with the
intent to fuel his musical career again. Throughout this, Scott
remarried and had the time to spend with family and re-establish
relationships with his children.
Having had the legendary Gary
Buck, rerecorded one of Scott's first singles, “Just A State of Mind”
and added it to a compilation CD called New Faces Two. This only made
Scott push harder to fulfill his dream. Scott has had the opportunity to
share the stage with many artists, Aaron Prichett, Beverley Mahood,
Wynonna Judd, Travis Tritt and Don Williams to name a few.
Scott
reconnected with his good friend Kenny Sitter in 2010, which lead to
even more connections within the country music scene. This connection
lead Scott to MCC Recording studios in Calgary, AB, recording his full
length CD “Here I Am” with Kenny Sitter producing and Johnny Gasparic at
the helm as engineer. What an amazing experience this was.
With
the success of releasing his debut single “Pretty Eyes” to Canadian
radio in June 2011, Scott knows where he's meant to be.....Things can
only move forward from now on for Scott Skirving. “There has never
really been any other choice for this emerging artist....country music
makes me feel alive and connected in this life.”
