Yes We Mystic http://music.cbc.ca/#/
Yes We Mystic captures a bygone era with a fresh, energetic sound. Inspired by traditional folk music and contemporary indie rock, Yes We Mystic celebrates the tragic through quiet acoustic melodies and soaring, triumphant crescendos. This is music to make you feel joy through your sorrow.
While Yes We Mystic was originally formed in 2011 as an acoustic folk band, their sound has evolved to include electric instruments and a modern mindset. Together, the five members create a new folk—folk that transcends the genre while staying true to its roots. Memorable harmonies and powerful strings are offset by distant guitars and complex rhythms.
Their forthcoming EP, Floods and Fires, deals with the theme of loss. It does not shy away from the melancholy, and yet there is something uplifting here; these songs, while dealing with loss, do not get bogged down in joylessness. Rather they extol the strength that comes from sadness. Floods and Fires will be engineered and produced by Winnipeg's Mike Petkau Falk (Les Jupes).
Whether it is the duality of acoustic and electric, of folk and indie rock, or of loss and joy, witness the cohesion from this band of opposites.
