Raised on the farm on the Canadian prairies this award winning singer/songwriter is a champion of vanishing values and the frontier spirit. His western heritage, cattle drives, wagon treks, and working folks with ties to the land have all been an inspiration for the lyrical imagery in his songs.
In 2005 this Juno Award winner was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. Gary still tours extensively and looks back on a rewarding career and gratefully acknowledges the hundreds of town and cities and thousands of listeners who have been touched by his music. With his finger style acoustic guitar, gentle vocals, colorful stories, Gary takes his western roots music to the people with a rare sincerity. Gary and his wife Lynne make their home on Canada's west coast. His lifelong love for Lynne, their four daughters and their many grandchildren is lovingly illustrated in many of his songs.

Well hello there friends. I guess it’s to time write a glowing, descriptive biography of ourselves that will titillate and captivate readers and make them just want to rush out and take in one of our shows, lose themselves in the sweeping grandeur of the music, and leave for home all starry-eyed and light-headed, along with a double armload of our CD’s!
Then, the one member of the audience that has a cousin who works for Caras will phone them from the lobby and convince them to nominate us for a Juno award, which we will win and thus embark on a 60 country world tour with a 17 piece backing band all happily ensconced in a private jet and staying at the best hotels with oodles of time for sightseeing and lolly gagging along the way.
Well, there you go. That’s what we are; storytellers and fabulists. We are in the business of spinning yarns and firing up imaginations. Living the dream!! Winning the musical equivalent of the lottery!! Loving it!!
People like us love to be on stage. We will always end up in theater groups, choirs, or as midway carnies. Entertaining is as much a part of our psyche as singing and playing, and after awhile, the two get intertwined seamlessly. Living on the emotions we stir up in our audiences around the world. Vaudevillers, show-biz people, traveling snake-oil salesmen, big-tent revivalists, musicians, there’s something akin between all of these who have the wandering soul, the diamonds in their eyes, and the next town on the road already sized up for tomorrow’s revue. See you there!
Oh, I forgot to mention where we grew up, our awards, favorite color, shared stage with, etc…….Oh well. No room left. Oh, I also forgot to mention the “E” word, so here goes! Eclectic! (not us, we’re just folks with Prairie Roots).

The fact that Saskia & Darrel often tour with Canadian music Icon Gary Fjellgaard speaks volumes about their abilities as musicians and song writers. Gary is well known throughout the music industry as being very "fussy" about his sound and the integrity of his show. This dedication to excellence is one of many lessons learned by this dynamic duo from their years on the road with Gary.
On their own, they are a powerful presence in their field; winning Top 5 people's choice awards, hitting the #4 spot on MSN Radio's National Top 30 Countdown, and being nominated for Album of the Year, Aboriginal Artist of the Year (times three), as well as Songwriter of the Year in Saskatchewan. Saskia and Darrel remain a perennial favorite on the Indy Euro stations. Their music is blithely described as "Prairie Roots".
