Faye Blais http://www.fayeblais.com/

Sudbury’s Faye Blais is spreading her new material around the globe, on a series of International Tours. Detailed as “continuing the thread started by Joni, picked up by Ani and fashioned by Feist”, Faye’s songwriting, presence and personality are showcased beautifully through her impressive jazzy-bluesy folk style, on acoustic and electric guitars, and keys, with stunning, dynamic vocals.
As a full-time musician over the past five years, Faye has spent half of her time overseas, recording and touring her albums throughout Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and USA. The rest of her time is spent touring in Canada, where she recorded her latest album, "On the Bright Side" (May 2012 release) at her family's cottage in Northern Ontario. She will be launching her album on a series of tours over 2012-3.
Faye has received great reviews from her releases, including CBC Radio 3's New Music Canada Track of the Day (for "Something's Changed"), nominated for 6 Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards over 2010-12, and been included in Canadian Folk Festival lineups (Eaglewood Folk Festival, Northern Lights Festival Boreal, Arts Wells, Robson Valley Music Festival, Revfest…) and invited to showcase NXNE 2012.  With 5 massive cross-Canadian tours over the past three years, Faye has also been featured in a wide range of media at home, with radio, TV and print interviews and placements (CBC Radio One, Radio-Canada/CBON Breakfast Television – Calgary, CTV – Sudbury, VUE Weekly – Edmonton….), and was commissioned to write music for Native Canadian Documentary "Return to Manomin" by Michelle Derosier (Thunder Bay, 2011).
Throughout her years overseas, Faye has performed hundreds of shows, including international folk festivals (Port Fairy Folk Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Illawara Folk Festival - AUS, Nannup Folk Festival - WA, USA, Spring Scream, Peacefest – TW, Art & Soul Festival - USA...) and received great attention from radio, TV and print media (Triple J - AUS, ABC - AUS/NZ, Noise TV -AUS, BLTV-TW, ICRT – TW, Balcony TV - AUS, RRR-AUS, FasterLouder - AUS, MX – AUS, CTV – NZ), in addition to compilation album features, and placements in Web and TV wordwide (including productions by Australian Red Cross and the Oak Tree Foundation).

Faye is currently based between Toronto (CAN) and Melbourne (AUS).  She is the first to admit that she can’t resist the sunshine.

Tereza Tomek Bio

Since she can remember Tereza Tomek has felt most at home while expressing herself creatively.  Her lifelong fascination with animals and nature, however, led her to pursue a life in science.  One summer while taking a Marine Biology field course she started a seaweed themed musical project called “The Phycs” with several other bio-musically inclined students. It was very nerdy, and very successful in this small, seaside science community. Before long their romantic tribute to Red Algae, “Oh Rhodophyta”, could be heard hummed all across the boardwalk. It was after this experience that Tereza realized she might be better suited with a guitar in her hand than a microscope slide.

Being as Tereza’s two homelands share common passions for beer, hockey, and free speech her eagerness to share her voice comes as no surprise.  Tereza immigrated to Canada at a young age but grew up with the pond monsters, spoiled princesses, and white ladies of haunted castles from traditional Czech folk tales and songs.   This strong sense of imagery and mystery has stayed with her and weaves its way into her songwriting.

Tereza is a clever wordsmith who writes lyrically-driven songs inspired by people, places, struggles, and history.  They will tell you tales of characters you never expected to meet but are glad you did, such as a West Coast Trail lighthouse keeper at the turn of the century, a girl whose receives a life-saving organ transplant because of a strangers tragedy, and a tree with a bad case of wanderlust.  They are sprinkled with vivid imagery and themes of nature, isolation, grief, restlessness, exploration, defiance, and love.  Though sometimes the story is told through the eyes of others, her songs are deeply personal and rooted in the empathy that binds us all. Her unique, richly toned vocals and confident stage presence draw her audience into her performance.

Tereza has been in the studio in Cumberland, BC the past year recording her debut full-length album, Crytozoology, with producer Corwin Fox for release summer 2013.  She has released two EP’s, Bowron Bird EP (2012) and Lost Causes (2011).  Tereza will be joining fellow songwriter Annie Becker on the road summer 2013 for a tour of the Yukon, BC, and Alberta.
