Megan Nash http://megannashmusic.blogspot.ca/p/about-megan.html

Megan Nash flirts with folk and punches pop in the face while wrangling soul-tinged roots..

As a Canadian artist with an abundance of original material, Megan Nash's songwriting is easily relatable and enjoyed by a large demographic, with an emphasis on those with life experience and empathy. Her topics range from life on the prairies to troubled relationships and love. Her knack for writing with universal concepts and appeal is accentuated by her choice of down to earth covers in the folk and country genre. She usually performs as a duo gaining the talent of guitarist Brodie Mohninger (Maw-ning-grr). Together they present the original songs with a multitude of sounds and dynamics.

The heart of a frontier’s woman, the soul of a poet; Yellowknife’s Mary Caroline captures the edginess and beauty of her northern life. A haunting honesty is brought to life with ethereal vocals, which are often highlighted by the instrumentation of cellist, Anne Marie Guedon.

Mary Caroline’s second album, Who’s in Control, was released in July 2012. It captures her time spent living in a remote trapper’s cabin on the shores of the Liard River, 150km north of the community of Fort Liard. The album was also greatly influenced by her time spent at the Yellowknife Artist Run Community Centre (ARCC), an old church that was transformed into a mecca of artist creativity and collaboration during the summer of 2011.

Mary Caroline’s band consists of Anne Marie Guedon on the cello, Greg Nasagaluak on bass and Kevin Dunbar on the drums. The band recently performed at Break Out West in Regina. Past performances also include The Snow Castle, Trout Forest Music Festival, Folk on the Rocks, The Works Art and Design Festival and the Yukon’s Alsek Festival.
