PEI - born, Calgary based singer-songwriter Scott MacLeod returns in
April 2012 with 12 new songs on 'Right As Rain'. Along with his
signature country-rock style, MacLeod has found a new voice in songs
like 'Out of Line' and 'Kick Me When I'm Down' which draw on his
rock'n'roll influences such as Bruce Springsteen.
Produced by Jon Wood, Right As Rain is evidence of MacLeod's
maturing songwriting. Tackling tough subjects with his customary
sensitivity, MacLeod creates compelling naratives and atmospheres for
the characters of his songs. The album was recorded at SunnyDay Studios
in East Vancouver where he was joined by Jon Wood, Ryen Froggat, Ed
Goodine, and Brain Barr - where evidence of other influences like Blue
Rodeo and Neil Young permeate MacLeod's distinct style.
"With soulful, rootsy ruminations on everything from floods in the 40's
and solitary grain elevators, to conjugal visits and legendary benders,
MacLeod satisfies with his second album." - Calgary Herald, May 2009
In the past 4 years since his debut album, Scott MacLeod has seen his
musical career grow in leaps and bounds. Now with his eagerly
anticipated follow-up, “Old Soul” this 3 time NXNE performer and Maritimer-come-Calgarian is excited to return to southern Ontario and the right coast!
“Old Soul” was recorded and produced by Lorrie Matheson at Arch
Studios, mixed at Sundae Sound by Dave Alcock, Lorrie Matheson and Scott
MacLeod, and mastered by John Golden at Golden Mastering. This
conglomeration of people havecrafted a stellar recording sure to catch
the ears of all who hear it.
Born and raised in a small
community on the east coast of Canada, Scott MacLeod was exposed to the
power of the storyteller at an early age. His lyrics tell the story of
the Canadian people, our values and hard work, from the east coast to
the prairies, and his driving rock and acoustic ballads signal
influences like Blue Rodeo, Neil Young, and Steve Earle. After moving
from PEI to Calgary in 2001, Scott immersed himself in the culture of
Canada’s West which, in turn, immersed itself in the words of his songs.
He began performing and has since established himself as a musician
and songwriter with a genuine, thoughtful, and distinct personality.
This notoriety has led Scott to perform alongside such well known
artists as The Duhks, MattMinglewood, and Dustin Bentall.
Scott MacLeod has been featured at NXNE in Toronto for three consecutive
years, played the “Songwriters Café” at the 2008 CCMA’s in Winnipeg and
has also held the stage at both the Sled Island Music Festival and the
South Country Fair in Alberta. Scott’s songs have been finalists at the
Calgary Folk Festival Songwriting competition three years in a row; his
song “This Old Farmhouse” was featured on ABC’s “The Castle” in July
2009, and prior to this the song “Traveler’s Rest” advanced to the
second round of 2006 International Songwriting Competition and “Sunshine
and Smiles” received honorable mention in the 2006 Billboard World
Songwriting Competition.
