Heading into the studio with John Ellis has been a career goal for
Blake Berglund: “After hearing the production on “Buckles and Boots”
(Ridley Bent) I instantly started to dig deep into John’s production
credits and everything that came up I instantly added to my library.
The majority of my favourite artists right now give credit to John as
their producer so to be among them, is quite an honour. We ended up
having some Thai and beers one night in Vancouver a couple years
ago, throwing around the idea of working together. I’m very excited to
see it come to fruition.”
It was Blake Berglund’s Prairie upbringing complete with equestrian
care and vinyl infatuation that created an honest craft evident in every
song. In an age where safety lies in genres, Berglund drags you along
in his lyrical love boat, through fingerpicking Lightfoot-esqe melody
lines, Spanish-strewn guitar licks and orchestral arrangements. He
croons over whiskey-soaked steel guitars and soars above three-chord
blues anthems. Defining his lyrical style, he's tortured by tales of
lost loves, downtrodden communities, and
substance abuse but displays enough Rock star bravado to fill a
stadium – all sprinkled with the perfect amount of sensual undertones
and subject quirkiness.
June 2012 will bring Coyote – Blake’s third album and likely his last independent release. With industry insiders watching his every move and interest indicated from record labels, booking agents and managers, he can anticipate much to come in the future. And as always the neverending tour will bring him close to you, no matter where you reside in Canada, this spring.
