Ben Brown is a bi-product of the imagination and experiences of Ethiopian born musician Salem Abraha, who accumulates several musical genres in a tasty blend. Displaying a daring versatility, it is impossible to categorize the musical style of Ben Brown; A soulful, yet edgy voice, warm and earthy guitar tone. Salem was born in Africa but very little of Ben Brown's music is reminiscent of African styles, while the Ben Brown sound has the rawness that is predominant in most African music. The Ben Brown sound is a constant process of evolution and learning, at one point Salem may touch on more African sounds. Salem has lived in Ethiopia, Swaziland, and has frequented several other countries in the continent of Africa. Living in Africa 10 years of his life, Salem was exposed to the many innovative styles that have originated in Africa, styles like Soweto Music in South Africa, which would be later mimicked by artists such as Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon and Dave Matthews. Living in Africa in the 70's and 80's, American pop, R&B, disco, and reggae music was widespread, which has a huge impact on Salem's music. Salem is grateful and gives credit for the priviledge of being nourished by the bounty of culture that surrounds Africans with music, dance, poetry, and art, at the same time being enriched by the modern styles of the western world, which could only produce a sound that is as unique as non other than....Ben Brown. Salem presently lives in Canada, he is proficient in both lead, rhythm, and acoustic guitar. At the moment, the Ben Brown sound is predominantly acoustic driven, but evolving to other sounds.
