The Lethbridge Folk Club closed their season , Saturday, May 25 at the Moose Hall with a spirited performance by Vancouver Island based musicians John Gogo and Allen Dobb.
By the time I arrived, John Gogo was playing his last song, which he introduced by telling a story about Cougar Annie, and then played a song featuring spirited, tender finger picking about the Cougar Annie.
She was a legendary pioneer figure who settled Hesquiat Harbour at Boat Basin in Clayoquot Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island and was nicknamed Cougar Annie for shooting 70 cougars.
Allen Dobb returned to play an encore Of Ian Tyson’s “ Four Strong Winds.” Dobb picked a mandolin, singing superb tenor harmonies, which meshed perfectly with Gogo’s guitar and similar sounding voice.
They were called back for another encore, but opted not to, noting they didn’t know any other songs together.
