JAZZERWOCKY 2011 – LETHBRIDGE’S JAZZ AND POETRY FESTIVAL
At WHISPERS 518 5th STREET S. on SATURDAY 22nd OCTOBER at 8:00 pm
This year, a great show featuring two bands and two poets.
The Scott Davidson Trio, an all University of Lethbridge music student band, opens the Festival with a selection of standard jazz favourites, followed by T. Gordon Leigh and The Naked Ear delivering a mix of seventies jazz-funk and a range of original numbers featuring a fusion of jazz and hip hop that Gordon calls BopHop.
Poets Jay Gamble of the University of Lethbridge Faculty and Richard Stevenson of the Lethbridge College Faculty, both published poets, will be performing their work to music at the Festival. A distinguishing criterion of Jazzerwocky is that all poetry must be performed to a music backdrop. Jay will be reading across cool jazz rhythms and Richard to the funk rhythms of Miles Davis.
Whispers promised some drinks and food specials geared to the Festival atmosphere and a brand new sound system to bring out the best in musical entertainment. There will be a draw for door prizes sprinkled throughout the evening to add to the fun.
The Festival is sponsored by local and downtown businesses and the Lethbridge Downtown Business Revitalization Zone. Festival tickets are $5:00 and can be purchased at the door on the night of the Festival or in advance at Long and McQuades Music Instruments and Bad Apple Salon Spa, both on 8thStreet South, or at The Music Court n Park Place Mall.
