For a group with a complex list of influences, Mindil Beach is simply named after a coastline in Darwin, Australia. Equal parts soul, adrenaline, and swagger, they are redefining the limits of rock & roll. Cam Ainslie (drums), Rod Campbell (vocals/keys), Pat Codere (vocals/guitar) and Matt Posnikoff (bass/guitar) captured listeners with the release of their self-titled debut in 2010. Jared Gauthier of The Uniter (Winnipeg) described the album as “nothing short of musical universality.” The band toured the album around western Canada and the USA.
Mindil Beach will tour their latest single, Love Like Mine, around western Canada in October 2014, and will be heading back across the country in April 2015 in support of a new EP. This summer, the band participated in the Fox Seeds Competition, a battle of the bands hosted by Vancouver radio station, 99.3 The Fox. After earning themselves a spot in the top 3, they were given the opportunity to play at the legendary Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, opening up for red-hot Canadian duo, USS.
Mindil Beach originally formed in 2008 as a five-piece with two lead singers, Daniel Kingsbury and Pat Codere. Their distinct styles gave the band a free attitude towards writing, allowing them to express themselves over a wide range of genres. This ability to adapt enabled them to play with acts ranging from Nazareth to Bedouin Soundclash to Del the Funky Homosapien. Since the release of their latest record, It Might Take Long (March 2013), Mindil Beach have been aggressively touring the Canadian bar, festival and school circuits. To date, they’ve rocked crowds at festivals like Rifflandia, Live at Squamish and Tall Tree Festival, but no matter the size of the venue, every Mindil Beach show feels like you're dancing in your living room.
The band’s passion for music goes hand in hand with their passion for the environment. In 2011, the boys co-founded The Jellyfish Project, an environmental initiative targeting Canadian high school and middle school students to generate awareness about ocean sustainability, climate change and environmental stewardship. The program has been presented in more than 90 schools to over 45,000 students, and has partnered with the Vancouver Aquarium and the David Suzuki Foundation. BC bands, The Boom Booms and Carmanah, recently joined the roster and are presenting nationwide. The success of the program led to Daniel’s departure from the band in 2014 to become Executive Director of The Jellyfish Project.

““To the man, Mindil Beach is the type of band I would be thrilled to work with. They are a compelling live act, very solid musicians, and they carry themselves with a magnetic combination of confidence in their craft and genuine humility as people. Their song Love Like Mine is in heavy rotation in my head. Songs, hooks, looks, great live, great people...I’m a fan!””
— Sean Kelly; Instructor (Coalition Music), Guitarist (Nelly Furtado)
