It was party time at the Slice with Five Alarm Funk, Nov. 23.
The ever popular Vancouver based afrobeat/ jazz/ dance orchestra supplies a wall of horns and more drums then you could shake a tail-feather to as they had most of the audience dancing their Wednesday night away.
They had an unstoppable rhythm and played a watertight set of addictive jazz/ rock/ afrobeat/ chaotic horn powered music.
They also had a lot of crazy costumes, with the bassist outfitted in a cat skin hat complete with ears and the bare chested saxophonist in a leopard skin jacket.
Most of the band went shirtless after an hour or so of relentless, sweaty set of upbeat music.
Most of the craziness happened in the second set, mostly from conga player Tom Towers who beamed ear-to -ear with a 
goofy grin, whether he was dressed in a gorilla costume during crowd favourite “Gorilla” or outfitted in thick glasses during the hilarious “The Critic,” or attacking lead drummer Tayo Branston with a giant novelty knife during one of my favourites “Crime of Passion,” though he wasn’t dressed as a housewife for it like he was last time.
They played a lot of upbeat originals and even a couple new songs from an upcoming Five Alarm Funk album.
