Vancouver’s Rococode are excited about   their upcoming show at the Slice, Feb. 26 with Royal Canoe.
“Lethbridge is the lucky one to get this one time show,” laughed guitarist, keyboardist vocalist  Andrew Braun driving to Nelson from a snowy Castlegar. Braun spent most of the past two years touring with Hannah Georgas.

Braun met Laura Smith, a former member of Said The Whale who has also performed with Dan Mangan and  Hannah Georgas, while attending the same music school.

“I graded one or two of her papers. She did all right, but we met in the halls and got to talking,” he said. She was doing a solo project so  Braun joined her band as a guitar player.

“That’s probably the last time we were in lethbridge,” he said.

“When that ran its course, she decided she didn’t want to be solo anymore, so we decided to work on a full on band project and started writing some songs,” he continued.

“ We decided to make an album, so we called the best rhythm section that we knew ( bassist Shaun Huberts and drummer Johnny Andrews who have played with Tegan and Sara for five years),” he continued.

The end result, “Guns, Sex and Glory” was released Feb. 7.

“We kind of put a lot of different kinds of pop on it,” he said adding they tried to make each song different.
“We used a lot of different sounds on some very simple songs and we tried to contort them as much as we we could,” he said.

They are looking forward to playing the new songs for Lethbridge.
“We’ve got the rock and roll rhythm section and some guitars and some synth. They will be some screaming and some singing. Well, maybe just one with screaming,” he said.
