Brandon born, Winnipeg bred power-pop band the Perms made a long awaited return to Lethbridge, July 5 at the Slice for all of 10 people, which unfortunately trimmed by half by the end of the show.
But regardless, they played a fast paced set of energy, jokes and power chords a plenty.
They played most of their latest CD “Sofia Night,” beginning with the first single “High School High.”
If you enjoy ’90s style pop punk and rock, then this was the show you wanted to see, because there were a lot of catchy, crunchy riffs, big beats, the occasional solo and some fantastic Beach Boys style vocal harmonies and lots of “whoa, whoa, whoa,” vocalizing. There were several familiar songs from the new CD including “Live For the Day,” which they joked was going to be on a reality show the “Bad Girls Club.”
They also played some older songs including an exceptional song which they say was inspired by a Kiss movie from the ’70s, then asked the audience what the name of the movie was because they couldn’t remember it. ( Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park).
They wound down their short, but sweet set with “Mannheim,” an uptempo rocker from the new CD which was inspired by a small town in Germany.
