I haven’t  been to an open mic for a long time, said Les Jupes frontman Michael Falk, a former member of the Liptonians, who also runs a record label Head in The Sand which hosts Les Jupes new keyboardist Adam Fuhr’s band “Yes We Mystic.”

“We’ll probably be the loudest band there,” he said.
While he is busy helping release new CDs from  Yes We Mystic and Old Folks Home, as well as his own solo EP “Oshimi,” Les Jupes released their own new EP “Empty Spaces” on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

“It’s the empty space between new albums and new band members,” he described.

They have finished recording a new full-length CD with  Imaginary cities’ Rusty Matyas and the Weakerthans engineer Chris Loeppky which is in the mixing process and should be released by the end of the year.

Drummer Jordon Ottenson and bassist David Schellenberg make up the Winnipeg based post punk quartet.
“We have had a couple new drummers and new keyboard player. Not everyone wanted to keep touring the world with no money, ” he said.

Les Jupes is his primary band now as three former Liptonians are now keeping busy with the band Royal Canoe.
“ It feels really good. We’re clicking together as a a band and clicking together as friends,” he said.
The band is keeping busy this fall.

They are playing across Canada now and then head overseas to the United Kingdom as well as a few shows in the United States.
“We’re covering a lot of territory. In a week an a half we’ll be playing Winnipeg (Sept. 20), Montreal, Hamburg, Glasgow and then coming back and driving to Seattle,” he said.
They host the Owl Acoustic Lounge’s Monday open mic, Sept.16.
