There is a lot of music going on in Lethbridge from rap to Danish rock and roll and blues.
Some
of the highlights of a busy week which began with the Lethbridge
Symphony Orchestra on Nov 18 and Vancouver rocker Matthew Good playing today at Average Joes. This week also includes a return visit from country/ roots
performer Devon Coyote, who plays the L.A Beat open jam at the Owl
Acoustic Lounge on Wednesday, Nov. 20. There is also a jazz jam with
HBO3 at the Slice on Nov 20 as well.
Open mics also return to
Honkers Pub on Friday, Nov. 22 where Steve Keenan will be hosting the
blues jam. Lethbridge doctor powered classic rock band DNR plays a pair
of rare local gigs with two shows at Casino Lethbridge, Nov. 22 and Nov.
23. If you like classic rock, it is a good weekend for you as well as
Billie Vegas play Legends, Nov. 23. And to see another side of Billie
Vegas, Sheldon Arvay with Scott Kanashiro will be playing their own take
on jazz and classical music at Ric’s Grill, Nov. 20.
The Slice has an interesting show featuring Vancouver based hip hop collective 33KIDSmusic, Nov. 21.
It is one of a couple big hip hop shows this week.
Vancouver rapper Sonreal, plus Transit and Rise perform at Studio, Nov. 23. Tickets are $15.
The Owl features local bands the Delawares and Cosmic Charley on Nov. 22.
Rock
and rollers will love the big rock show of the week as Danish rock and
roll band Thee Attacks play Bo Diddly’s, Nov. 23 with Toronto rock band
the Reason and Sophmore Jakes.
Tickets are $20. The show begins at 9 p.m.
Saturday
will be off the hook. Sandwich returns to the Slice while Calgary
progressive rock band Diatesssaron will be blowing minds at the Owl
Acoustic Lounge. The coolest show of the week is at the Moose Hall, Nov.
23. The all ages gig begins at 7 p.m. and features St. Thomas born
Horrorbilly pioneers The Matadors, The Preying Saints and local punk
bands the Scallywags and the Dregs plus local surf punk band Chief
Mountain are all on the bill as well. Admission is $10.
For more laid back blues, Riviera Paradise plays the Mocha Cabana Nov. 22 and 23.
And for a stranger twist on blues and roots, don’t miss Bocephus King, who plays the Slice on Sunday, Nov. 24.
But
one very special show this week features local country music
performers Trevor Panczac and the Junkman’s Choir, who are helping out
the students of L’ Ecole Verendrye. Fundraiser for Kids takes place,
Nov. 23 at La Cité Des Prairies (2104 6 Avenue South). The school
always does fundraisers, so they are trying something on a larger scale
this year
