The Void’s new sound is simpler

E-mail Print PDF

The Void performing their original music. Photo by Richard AmeryLocal alternative rock trio the Void  had a decent crowd out for their show at the Slice with We Are the Cynics, March 6. I only caught the Void’s last set, which mostly included new songs they plan to record in Vancouver later this year.

The new music was simpler, and more straight ahead Foo Fighters style ’90s influenced alternative rock rather than the multi-layered heavily Smashing Pumpkins’ influenced music they usually perform, though frontman Jon Vornbrock definitely has the Billy Corgan nasally timbre to his voice.

While I miss the second guitar on stage, Vornbrock, drummer Dean Wilson and big tall, Johnny Little on bass, definitely clicked as a trio.

They ended their set with a couple of their older songs including “ Take My Life.”
