Thankfully this week is a little bit slower so you can take a little bit of a breather before Whoop Up Days. However there are still quite a few highlights.
If you love dance and electronic music, the biggest event this week takes place at Galt Gardens, Aug. 15.
The fourth annual Lethbridge Electronic Music Festival (LEMF) features 24 electronic artists and DJS performing on two stages all day long. There is no charge to attend the event which runs from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
It is competing with another big annual event- The Lethbridge Fire Fighters Charity barbecue at the Smokehouse. The event features live music, a 50-50 draw, beer and whiskey tasting, prizes and all you can eat barbecue. Tickets cost $20 with five dollars of that going to support Lethbridge fire fighters charities.
There are also a couple of solid metal and rock shows happening throughout the week. Regina progressive rock trio Black Thunder return to the Slice. Aug. 12 to play a Turbojugend Dethbridge event with local alternative rock band the Supervoid and punk trio Advertisement. Cover is pay what you want for the show, which begins at 9 p.m.
Inferno features a big local metal show on Aug. 14 featuring Stoned Zombies, the Johnny Rains band, Penitentz and the East End Rangers.
There are also a couple of big punk flavoured shows this week. On Aug. 15, The Moose Hall features Calgary’s Citizen Rage, a Total Disappointment and the Press Gang. There is a $10 cover. Doors open at $10.
That same night Calgary based Celtic acoustic punk Spencer Jo hits the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 15.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge also features upbeat pop music with The Jamies, Aug. 14. There is no cover for the show.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge also features Toronto pop/ rock musician Sarah Burton, who will be bringing her band to town on Monday, Aug. 17.
If you want to dance and enjoy a whole bunch of good vibes, don’t miss Toronto reggae institution the House of David Gang, who play the Slice, Aug. 12. They perform with Hachey the Mouthpiece. There is a $10 cover for the show.
And, of course, Whoop Up Days begins on Tuesday, Aug. 18 with Saskatoon classic rock style band the Sheepdogs at 9 p.m. Fast Times open at 7:30 p.m. They are one of several local acts performing throughout the week and for Whoop Up Days.
