Bloody great show from Blëed

Edmonton death metal/ horror rock band Blëed played a bloody excellent show at Inferno, Sept. 9.Blëed playing Inferno, Sept. 9. Photo by Richard Amery
I missed Necrofuckphilia and Penitentz, but caught a technical issue plagued set from Chestermere’s White Knuckle.

There were forgotten mic cables and a blown bass amp, but they were able to make do by filling the downtime with extended guitar solos, while borrowing another bass amp.

When they did finally get organized, they sounded like a mix of Molly Hatchet and Pantera and a variety of classic ’80s metal, with plenty of big riffs, shredder guitar solos and  blues inflected melodies. I'd look forward to seeing them when they are organized.

Blëed were a bloody good time. The band set up a variety of spooky props, creepy body parts, torsos and severed heads, a mic stand that looked like a demon's skull and came on stage soaked in  fake blood.

Frontman Rob Kreed grinned evilly, addressing the audience in a voice that blended Marilyn Manson and Canadian comics the Frantics and howled , growled and shrieked as he poured fake blood all over himself and a few good natured, head-banging audience members.

Guitarist  Ron Kratky played brutal detuned riffs and bassist Mike Bell added to the bottom end while growling like Cookie Monster being tortured. They covered most of the songs from their CD “The Hatred Inside.”

New drummer Chris Murphy thundered and rumbled his toms with a double kick drum and crashing cymbals.

They ended with “Hate, March  Kill,” then played one more called “Red Eye,” to send the audience, ears ringing, into the night before midnight.
