The first week of October begins relatively slowly, with the exception of a huge show for country music fans, on a Sunday, no less.
Shooter Jennings, son of country music icon Waylon Jennings will be playing Average Joes, Sunday, Oct. 4 with Ridley Bent and Colter Wall.
Tickets cost $45 in advance, $55 at the door if there are any left.
The week is mainly about country and roots music.
The Geomatic Attic featuring country/soul siren Lindi Ortega and Winnipeg soul/pop band Chic Gamine playing on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The Lethbridge Folk Club features Alberta roots duo Allan and Arnell at the Wolf’s Den, Oct. 2. Jane Allan and Lance Arnell play old style country and roots music on a variety of acoustic instruments covering a bit of bluegrass, country, folk and roots as well as original music. The show begins at The Wolf’s Den (MJS Cycle 1502 -2nd Avenue South) at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 for members, $30 for guests including a year's membership.
It is a good week for local blues as well as Paul Kype and Texas Flood play Casino Lethbridge, Oct. 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. each night.
There is a massive show for metal fans as Zombiefest IV tears into the Eagle’s Hall, Saturday, Oct. 2.
Medicine Hat grindcore band Crease kick things off at 3 p.m. They will be followed by Calgary blackened thrash band at 3:45, Morley death metal band Dethgod at 4:30, Winnipeg death metal band Entity at 5:30, local death/grind band the Avulsion at 6:30 p.m., Calgary black metal band Vile Insignia at 7:30, Vernon blackened death metal band Xul at 8:30 and Calgary death metal band Reverend Kill closing things off at 9:45 p.m. There is a $10 cover for the event.
There are a couple of excellent rock shows as well.
Toronto power pop band Ozgoode return to the Slice, Sept. 30. Indie rock band Dollhart, formerly known as Jenavive is also on the bill.
Local progressive rock band The New Weather Machine also return to the Slice this week to play, Oct. 2.
Inferno opens October on a hip hop note with the Suicide Kings, performing with local rappers Pyke, F-Bomb and Sam MacKey performing. Tickets are $10 in advance from Blueprint, $15 at the door for the Oct. 1 show, which begins at 9 p.m.
Local jazz guitarist James Oldenburg will be playing two shows at the Cotton Blossom Lounge this week on Oct. 1 and 2 to open up October. He performs 7-9 p.m. each night.
And if you are looking for something mellow to do on a Sunday afternoon, the monthly ukulele jam takes place at CASA at 2 p.m., Oct. 4.
And, if you think you're funny or just want to laugh, the Owl Acoustic Lounge has a comedy open mic, Wednesday, Sept. 30.
