Calgary rockabilly band Peter and the Wolves took advantage of the return of keyboardist Paul Rodermond for Christmas break to record their sophomore CD.
They will be giving Lethbridge a taste of the new music at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Jan. 2.

“And we’ll have a new album in the new year. We just finished recording it over Christmas , she said, adding the band takes full advantage of keyboardist Paul Rodermond’s breaks from school in Newfoundland. Frontman/ lead guitarist Peter Cormier and upright bassist Theo Waite complete the band.
“That’s how we did the last album too,” she said.

“We play some shows and do whatever recording needs to be done,” she continued, noting when he is back for summer in May, the band will do a tour out to Montreal and back.
She is excited about the as of yet unnamed CD.

“There’s 12 songs all originals and one cover. I sing on one song — a cover of St. James Infirmary. Which is unusual for us,” she observed, noting the band has played the songs many times for audiences.

“That’s how we decide what to record— we record the songs that make people move,” she said.
“We’re really excited about the album,” she said adding having Rodermond back has really motivated the band.

“Paul is a childhood friend of the boys. We survive without him, but we thrive with him,” she said.
While barely into their 20s, Peter and the Wolves have embraced rockabilly music.

“The boys were blessed to grow up listening to a lot of great music. their parents have great music collections me of them are the sons of (popular Calgary roots band) the Bownesians. I was already part of the rockabilly scene when they met me. We became really great friends and Peter and the Wolves found their niche and found what they were passionate about,” she said.

Peter and the Wolves have played Lethbridge several times in the past year including at CKXU’s Love and Records in September, so they are excited to return.
“We’re playing there on a Saturday and we have a new album coming out. Admission is by donation, so hopefully people will come out,” she said.
Peter and the Wolves play the Owl Acoustic Lounge at approximately 9 p.m., Jan. 2.
