A crowd was packed into the Slice, Jan. 16 shoulder to shoulder and the floor full of sweaty dancers digging the upbeat, cheerful pop and R and B of Mwansa Mwan
sa and HBO3 plus Aaron Collier on keys.
They played a couple of originals, but I missed them. I caught beautiful renditions of a variety of hits from the ’60s to today.
They played a superb version of Jamiroquai’s ’90s hit “Virtual Insanity,” as Mwansa Mwansa asked her band if it came from the ’90s.
She beamed and looked blissed out, dancing on stage while her band mates took solos.
James Oldenburg stood out of the shadows and played tastefully subtle guitar solos as bassist Paul Holden was locked in with drummer Brad Brouwer.
Collier almost stole the show, playing blazing leads on organ and piano.
