Winnipeg folk/ roots quintet the F-Holes‘ Patrick Alexandre LeClerc is excited to be back on upright bass for a solo performance at the Slice, July 8.
“The last time I was there I was playing piano. This time  I’m back on upright bass and I’ll  have the same guitar player Dwayne Dueck. He‘s  one of the top two blues guitarists in Winnipeg and you can tell Chris Carmichael I said that,” LeClerc chuckled.Patrick Alexandre Leclerc plays a solo show at the Slice this week. Jeffrey Laird will be playing drums with him on this quick solo tour.

He will be supporting the solo CD he released in November.
“The F Holes are on it and so is Dwayne Dueck, but other than the guest spots, I played all of the instruments on it,” he said adding the F-Holes are on hiatus for now.
“The F-Holes have always been a five way collaboration, so if the F-Holes do anything we all have to agree and two of the guys are really busy now. But I already have enough material for a new album,” he said adding it could go towards either a new F-Holes album or a new solo Cd.
He has enjoyed being able to work on solo material.

“The F-Holes are about all of the influences all of the guys bring to the table. What I bring to the table is old rock and roll and blues and a little bit of New Orleans jazz,” he said.
He said learning piano has helped him become a better bassist.

“People think rock and roll is just really fast, but there is more to it. It’s like running with mud on your boots,” he said.

“I learned a lot about playing rock and roll when I was playing piano but I’m glad to be back on bass. With a three piece, there is just so much more room to play a lot,” he continued.

He kept his solo CD close to his chest.
“  I recorded it on analog reel to reel,” he said.
“I  just sold it from my own hand. I didn’t submit it to anything. I toured on it when I released it and that was it,” he said.
He has a few short tours this summer and longer tour in September.
“I’m busy enough. I’ve got four kids at home,” he said.
