Creepshow play great pre-Halloween party

A Thursday night punk show featuring Toronto punk rockers Brutal Youth and Toronto/Montreal/ Hamilton psychobilly veterans the Creepshow was surprisingly well attended, Oct. 27.The Creepshow’s Kenda Legaspi playing the Moose Hall. Photo by Richard Amery

Of course it didn’t start on time, which was fine as I was coming over to the Moose Hall after the Motorleague’s show at  Average Joes.

So arrived just in time for Brutal Youth who put on a suitably brutal set of snarling guitars and a frontman wearing a tattered white Weird Al Yankovic T shirt, pacing through the audience bellowing into his mic, and sometimes standing on table to  for extra visibility. The rest of the band kept to the back  of the stage, letting their frontman, pace, stalk and howl the set away.
The Creepshow were fantastic, adding a keyboard and a whole lot of energy to their set of catchy psychobilly music.

“ See You in Hell” was a highlight from the start as petite lead singer Kenda Legaspi dove into the middle of the frothing crowd, guitar and all.

Sean McNab smacked his upright bass as he howled the oh oh oh chorus of the song and  Ginty danced and dove behind his keyboards.
They crashed into “Run For your Life,” right after that as Kenda  abandoned her guitar for the microphone and dove into the masses again.

“Sleep while I’m Dead ” was another of several highlights.

They focused on material from the latest CD “Life After Death,” and first with Kenda, but also played some older songs like “Sell Your Soul.”

The biggest highlight of the night for me was the unbelievably catchy “ Born To Lose” from the last CD featuring  one of many instances of upbeat gang vocals.
