Shaela Miller sure knows how to pick excellent acts for her Windy City Opry at the Slice.
The latest Windy City Opry, April 12 featured Calgary roots trio the T Buckley trio.
I arrived late to the early starting show, it being a Wednesday night, but caught an excellent selection of songs from frontman T Buckley, lead guitarist Tim Leacock and upright bassist Derek Pulliam.
Tim Buckley and Leacock took turns singing lead vocals as well as harmony vocals and alternated between electric and acoustic guitars. Pulliam plucked away at his bass and grooved.
They played an array of folk and country classics as well as several originals and added a sweet version of Chuck Berry’s “Nadine.”
Brooke Wylie, who performed at last month’s Windy City Opry, was on hand to add a third harmony vocal to one of their songs.
A highlight was the bluesy, Tim Leacock slide guitar powered “ These Days The Blues Don‘t Trouble me.”
I also enjoyed the catchy Leacock penned “Nowhere Radio” which wound down the show. That song showed of some excellent three part harmonies.
Leacock added perfect, twangy lead guitar throughout the set.
They were called back for an encore of a Bob Dylan song before winding up this edition of the Opry around 11 p.m.
