As expected, a lot of this week is dominated by Christmas events, though there are a lot of cool shows and fundraisers happening.
A week of wonderful entertainment begins tonight , Tuesday, Dec. 14, wit the Owl Acoustic Lounge’s weekly open mic.
Gabe Thaine is hosting a special blues jam at the Slice as well tonight.
Standard Time, aka pianist Randy Epp and trumpeter Donald Robb are playing the Watertower Grill’s weekly jazz night from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday , Dec. 15.
The first of several Christmas events is also on Wednesday, as Shakespeare Meets Dickens returns to Casa after a year long Covid caused break.
The festive event features a readers theatre of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol, ’ A performance of the Ghost Scene from Hamlet and the porter scene from MacBeth, plus a plethora of Christmas songs and treats.
Shakespeare Meets Dickens begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25.
The Slice’s weekly open mic us on Thursday.
Friday will be a blast.

Calgary rockabilly band Peter and the Wolves are making a stronghold in Lethbridge
They were just at Casino Lethbridge and return to the Slice Friday, Dec 17.
The Geomatic Attic is making the most of their Downtown gallery/ concert venue before it closes at the end of the month .
The band formerly known as Karen, Lewis and Pam hosts a holiday sing-a-long at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17. Admission is free but they are accepting donations of non-perishable food items for Lethbridge’s food banks.

Local roots singer/ songwriter Dave McCann was a surprise fill in at the Geomatic Attic Downtown on Saturday, Dec. 11. He will be joined by his band the Firehearts at thew Owl Acoustic Lounge on Friday, Dec. 17. Expect to hear songs from his most recent CD Westbound ’til Light” and, song from his previous albums, brand new songs and a lot of stories.There is a $10 cover for the show.

Kelly Klimchuk’s band Holy Roller and the Coasters hosts the open mic on Friday night at 8p.m.
On Saturday, Honkers Pub has a special fundraising concert for Captain Morgan Dyck, who is fighting stage 4 brain cancer.
An excellent evening of music begins at 5:15 with Chuck Reinhart followed by Earl Halmrast, Andy MacNamara, the Trippy Hippys, Circle Ridge Country, blues musician Steve Keenan, Tragically Hip tri
bute the Hip Trip and blues rock band Driving While blind closing things off at 9:30 before opening the stage for jammers.

Downtown, if you missed TJ Waltho’s Peanut’s Christmas Special at Spectrum Ale Works on the weekend, catch them at the Owl Acoustic lounge, Saturday, Dec. 18.
Waltho, Paul Holden and Brad Brouwer will be playing the soundtrack while both Peanuts Christmas specials show on a screen behind them. Rob Ursel will also be performing.
If you can’t make that, they will be at the Slice, Dec. 23.
Get ready to bang your head at the Slice, Dec. 18 as Calgary seafaring themed power metal band Syryn return to rock the stage. They will be joined by fellow Calgarians Dorian’s Mirror who combine elements of ’90 alternative, blues, soul and metal.
Local rock bands Tainted Stain and Suit Jacket Society fill out the bill..
Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, The music begins at 9 p.m.
If you want to laugh, Calgary comedian Steve Taddy is performing at Good Times at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18. Tickets are $15.

And it isn’t Christmas in Lethbridge without two major Lethbridge events, which happen this week.
New West Theatre’s new December show ‘Ode To Joy’ opens at the Yates Theatre, Wednesday, Dec. 15.
The Southern Accord Chorus bring some more seasonal spirit to the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens Winter lights Festival on Dec. 18.
They will be carolling at 6 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
And it isn’t Christmas without hearing the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra performing Handel’s Christmas classic “the Messiah.”
There is a matinee performance on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 3 p.m. and a Monday night performance at 7:30 p.m. at the Southminster United Church. Tickets are $25-75.
