There’s more than one way to rock for the long weekend as we usher out August and welcome September.
There are two big events on the weekend.
The rescheduled Rockin’ in the park Redux is at the Nicholas Sheran Park, Saturday , Sept. 3 with Midnight Channel, Biloxi Parish’s Zach Passey and Jolene Draper and the Inquisitive Few.
Rotten weather meant the Arts in the Park series got off to a rocky start at the beginning of summer, but sunny skies are predicted for this rescheduled free concert, which begins at noon.
The other big event is Frankenfest 2, at the Creepy Hollow haunted house in Warner beginning at 10 a.m.
A variety of local bands start playing at noon including Misfits tribute 138, Tyrants of Chaos, Decadent Phase, Dead Army. The Plaid Ramblers, The Wicked Grins, Switched Off, Fawns, Makiisma, Rainbow Patrol and District Attorney Dallas.
Admission is $30. Tickets are available at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, the Slice, Josee’s, Catwalk as well as at the gate.
Swift Current progressive rock band the Moon Runners have also been added to the bill.
If you can’t get out to Warner, The Moon Runners are also playing the Owl Acoustic Lounge with the Rainbow Patrol, Friday, Sept. 2. Admission is by donation.
There is a lot happening earlier in the week
There is an open mic at the Owl Acoustic Lounge tonight, Aug. 30.
Local percussion duo the ja.man.i duo have an album release party at Casa at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31. Admission is free.
The Slice closes off August on Aug. 31 with Gabe Thaine and friends’ jam for hunger. Gabe Thaine and Friends play a 8 p.m. followed by the jam at 8:45. Donations will be accepted for the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen.
The Slice opens September with a bagpipe power roar as the welcome Celtic rock band the Mudmen back to Lethbridge who are in the middle of their ‘Farmer’s Tan” Cd release tour.
The Slice has big local rock show on Friday, Sept. 2 with Calgary based Gone Cosmic’s CD release party. Classic Black, Mombod and Switched Off will be joining them. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
Calgary duo High Kicks return to the Slice on Saturday, Sept. 3 with Tijuana Donkey Show and lec Arms. Admission is $10 in advance $15 at the door.
There are also lots of laughs this week.
Brittany Lyseng returns to Good Times, Thursday, Sept. 1 for ladies night with host Megan Windle. Tickets are $15.
Kelly Taylor performs on Friday. Tickets are $15. The lighter begins at 8 p.m. Taylor placed second in the just for laughs Home-grown competition against seasoned comedy veterans. He has also been. Named Canadian College Comedian of the Year.
And Drunk Improv returns to Didi’s Playhaus on Saturday at 8 p.m. Admission is pay what you can.
The Slice is starting to do Sunday shows.
This Sunday, they host a songwriters in the Round with Kevin Peters, Richard Inman, Joe Wilson and Malcolm MacLean.
