Cornucopia of comedy and folk and pop music this week

It is fall so community theatre is in full force.

 This week, Playgoers of  Lethbridge presents their dinner theatre production of Ken Ludwig]s murder mystery/ comedy “ The Game‘s Afoot: Holmes  For the Holiday” opens tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 17 and running through Saturday. Cocktails are at 6 p.m. Tickets for the dinner and show are $60.

It is another banner week for comedy.

 CODCO and This Hour has 22 Minutes veteran Mary Walsh is  performing  “An Evening with Mary Walsh” at the Yates Theatre, Wednesday, Oct. 18. Tickets are $70. The show begins at 7 p.m.

Once you’ve seen one of Canada’s best comedian,  with Mary Walsh, check out the young up and comers at Pro-Amateur night at Good Times with host Brian Dawdniuk."  Ty Reveen, son of the original Great Reveen, Peter Reveen carries on a family tradition as he brings his hypnotic brand of comedy to the Place on Friday, Oct. 20. Tickets are $22.50. The show begins at 7 p.m.

 

“Smart ass king of comedy” Mike “ Pickle” Dambra returns to Lethbridge to bring his interactive comedy show to Good Times, Oct. 20 and 21. Tickets are  $24.95.

 the shows begin at 8 p.m.

Theatre Outré returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge  on Wednesday, Oct. 18  to bring the laughter.

 There are plenty of open mics this week.. The Owl Acoustic Lounge’s usual weekly open mic is tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 17

 Jolene Draper and the Inquisitive Few  return to the Slice stage on Wednesday to host their open mic.

 Gabe Thaine hosts an early open mic at  Theoretically Brewing oN Thursday beginning at 6 p.m..  Dennis Wade and Bill Weiler host Honkers Pub’s open mic on Friday, Oct. 20.

There is a little bit of everything for the rest of the week.

including a lot of folk.

 Slow Leaves , a solo project of Grant Davidson return to Lethbridge to play the Geomatic Attic on Saturday, Oct. 21. Tickets are. $30 and $32. 50. The show begins at 8 p.m.

 Also on Saturday, The Lethbridge Folk Club hosts Charlie Ewing  and his trio  including bassist Les Kesler and Dirty Hat Band band mate  Bob Blair at the Lethbridge College Cave. Mike Murchison will be opening.

 Tickets are $40 non members, $35 for members.

 The show begins at 8 p.m.

 

There is plenty of pop this week.

 University of Lethbridge based campus radio station wind up their Bubblegum Pop Themed Fundrive at the Owl Acoustic  Lounge with  Calgary  indie pop dup Midnite Gossip, and rappers Pogboii and  K Riz and the Family. admission is $10 for the early show beginning at 7:30 p.m. They will be announcing the winner of their Vinyl 50 50 draw then. Check out www.ckxu.com  for Fundrive details and perhaps pledge to help CKXU attain their $20,000 to help revamp their music library.

 Ty Vandendool returns to the Slice with Fawns on Friday, Sept. 20. There is a $10 cover.

The Slice has another big punk show on Saturday, Oct. 21.

 Edmonton skate punk trio Broken Yolks return to rock the Slice with Bob Scallywag, Sessions and Parkland county hardcore punk ban Travulta will be playing beginning at 9 p.m. There is a $10 cover for the show. Doors open at 8.

For something a little different, The Southern Accord Chorus  celebrate 25 years making beautiful music together  with a special show at College Drive  Community Church., Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20.

 

 On the country side of things, Richard Inman releases his new CD at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Friday, Oct. 20. with special guest Maesa Luise. Admission is by Donation.

 Undefined return to rock Honkers Pub country style  with a full show on Saturday, oct, 21.

 And the Shameful Hussies rock casino Lethbridge, Friday and Saturday.

 

 Get ready to get sweaty on a Sunday at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Oct. 22 with Vancouver jazz rock collective Five Alarm Funk, who stop by Lethbridge as part of their twentieth anniversary tour. Unfortunately the show is already sold out for this LEMF fundraising concert. The funky madness begins at 8 p.m.

 Things get busy in a hurry next week with a whole lot of girl power as Lethbridge ramps up things h for Halloween.

 The Slice has another big punk show on Tuesday, Oct. 24 with ugly pop/ riot Grrrl band Skating Polly, , Alec Arms and the High Tops.

 The Geomatic Also has a beautiful blues show on Tuesday, oct, 24 with Women In Blues  featuring Jenny Thai and Miss Emily . Tickets are $68.71. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

 Amy Nelson returns to Lethbridge to host the Owl Acoustic Lounge’s open mic on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
