Chris Sleightholm from Regina based psychedelic rock band Snake River, returned to Lethbridge to play the Slice with an new band and new music, Wednesday,Nov. 15.
Sleightholm, bassist Andy Beisel and drummer Ian Cameron channelled a lot of the Sadies and a touch of early ’70s paisley country like The Byrds and Gram Parsons plus some original cowpunk like Rank and File for a solid set of original music and one cover.
Sleightholm and his bandmates sang Sadies style, spooky three part vocal harmonies over a bed of laid back psychedelic guitars.
Sleightholm drew more on jangling paisley country after switching to a beautiful beige Rickenbacker for that Byrds style twang before ending their set with an upbeat song about cats, Sleightholm dedicated to pet owners.
A Trozzo Electric took things up a notch to finish the night by showing off their more progressive rock/ hard rock side for a quick set of older material.
Aaron Trozzo sang lead vocals and laid down groovy riffs, bassist Sil Campus and drummer Garwin Poff locked in for a hypnotic rhythm.
TJ Waltho did double duty on keyboards and by adding extra guitar harmonies to Trozzo’s leads or holding down the rhythm for Trozzo to solo on a couple songs.
I missed Ol’ Ben’s opening set.
