Taylor Ackerman can play everything, instruments and styles of music, and is usually performing with Shaela Miller, so it is always a treat to sit back and listen to him go back to his roots— playing back blues and blues rock.
He brought his trio including Pat Ackerman on bass and drummer Dustin Gergel back to the Owl Acoustic lounge for a close to full house, Friday, Dec. 22.
They were in the middle of some more mid-tempo blues classics, then added Chris Stapleton’s “ The Devil Always Makes Me Think Twice,” to add a little country to the night.
They kicked things up a notch by welcoming Jon Martin, who opened the show , on stage to play a couple of excellent classics with them, allowing Ackerman to trade solos and lead vocals on a couple of songs including sleazy cover of Steppenwolf’s “The Pusher” .
A more upbeat blues rock number, “ Lucky Dog” was one of my favourites of the set.
Ackerman released three EPS during the pandemic, and dug into one of them for “Bangladeshi T -Shirt.”
It was back to the classics after that as they played “ She’s an Evil Woman” and Freddie King’s “Little by Little.”
