Atomicos debut more new music from upcoming album at Owl

It seems local surf rock band Atomicos just released their long awaited second album “ Fins Up,” but they already have enough music for a third. So they introduced a decent sized crowd to some of the new material at the Owl Acoustic lounge, Saturday, May 11.

They played their usual spirited set of instrumental surf style music.

Frontman Tyson Wiebe traded harmonized instrumental riffs with Tyler Stewart,  while drummer Chris Henderson and  bassist Nigel Derksen held the rhythm together.

They were just getting started by the time I arrived, having just missed Commander Xander and the Talent show.

They played a couple of cool quirky songs  including “Truffle Shuffle,” inspired by the movie the Goonies.

The Atomicos played a lot of new songs from their next album including  a hockey themed song, which they ended by playing the “Hockey Night In Canada theme.”

They followed it up with another new song “ Tropical Depression” which featured some guitar harmonies.

In addition, the band added a few cool covers including  a cover of “Clam Bake.”

“Skullet” was another original highlight which Wiebe credited to Henderson.
