The Utilities play tight show of jangling indie rock

I haven’t seen local indie rock band the Utilities for a while so I made a point of  catching their set at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, April 13.

The Utilities playing the Owl Acoustic Lounge. photo by Richard AmeryEspecially as I missed them and all of the other performers at the U of L Last class bash, April 15. I missed opening act Webb, who were releasing their EP, but the Utiltities played a tight set of jangling indie rock, which featured plenty of delay laden guitar a swell as catchy hooks which reminded me of the Northern Pikes mixed with Coldplay with just a touch of the Dudes.

They alternated between more slower, haunting songs and more up tempo more hook filled, danceable songs. They had a surprisingly good sized Wednesday  night audience either on their feet or cheering enthusiastically.
