Early shows and early Halloween among this week’s highlights

Live entertainment is going to have to adapt the the reinstatement of new Covid restrictions. In addition to having to wear masks again and alcohol sales ending at 10 p.m. ,  the fun is starting early.

 

Gabe Thaine’s High Level Variety is tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 7 beginning at 8 p.m. at the Slice.

 

 Over at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Hamilton funnyman B.A Johnston returns for his annual

mid week show.

 Open Channels open the show at 8 p.m. Admission is by donation.

 

 Thursday, Sept. 9 will be a lot of fun.

 The Allied Arts Council wind up their successful summer afternoon concert series Upside Downtown with Fawns and Steven Foord. As always the show is from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m.

After that, Keith Catfish Woodrow hosts a blues jam at the Slice.

 

Freshfest which was to include performances by BBNO$  and the Felix Cartel on Friday and Saturday at the University of Lethbridge has been cancelled due to Covid.

 

As always Friday has plenty of live music options.

 The Tim Hus Trio will be playing the Empress in Fort Macleod at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 10 Admission is $25.

Megan Brown’s band Makiisma delayed their  “Lady Misery” CD release party and tour, last April because of Covid, but it will be happening at the Owl Acoustic Lounge  beginning at 7:30 p.m. with Wendy Colby opening.

 

 Uncovered play Casino Lethbridge this weekend beginning at 8 p.m.

The Plaid Ramblers, who have been playing a lot lately will be celebrating the end of summer with a roof top patio party at the Canadian Brewhouse, Friday, Sept. 10.

Admission is $10 and includes a drink ticket for a domestic bottle of beer or a highball. It is scheduled to start at 9 p.m.

 

And the Windy City Opry returns this week. But instead of once a month on a Wednesday, they will be held quarterly on a Friday.

The first Windy City Revival features quirky Edmonton based alt country band The Bobby Tenderloin Universe and Calgary’s Amy Nelson. It is also scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10.

 

Saturday will be off the hook.

Take a road trip to Stirling and get an early start on Halloween as Creepy Hollow  Haunted mansion hosts Frankenfest.

 A variety of bands will be performing including  Ali Cat, Biloxi Parish, Switched Off, local Misfits tribute 138, Jolene Draper and the Inquisitive Few and more to be announced. Admission is $60 per per person including camping.

 Doors open at 10 a.m. for you to pitch your tent early and the bands begin at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at the Slice, Owl Acoustic Lounge, Catwalk Salon, Josee’s handmade Imports and Creepy Hollow.

 

But there is more than enough happening in Lethbridge.

Honker’s Pub has a busy week with  the Trippy Hippys hosting their Friday night open mic.

 

 They have a big outdoor festival on Saturday, Sept. 11 beginning with Chuck Reinhart at 1 p.m. followed by  Coda Lite, the Trippy Hippys, Fractures of Etalon, Whiskey Gap Country, the Steve Keenan Band and Mark Hall’s Tragically Hip Tribute the Hip Trip winding  things up at 8 p.m. Admission is $10.

 

Good Time Charlie will be rocking the Duke on the West side on Saturday Sept. 11.

 

Arts in the Park winds up their Saturday summer series by returning to Legacy park on the north side with a focus on dance, Sept. 11.

 The Lethbridge Dance Extravaganza begins at 1 p.m.

The Fates Jenny Allen returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Sept. 11. The early show begins at 7 p.m. Admission is by donation.


 Get the next week off to a rocking start at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, with local alternative rock trio Mombod performing at the Owl Acoustic longe with Quit It!, a new band out of Calgary formed during last year’s lockdowns with RiverJacks’ members Tyler Burton, drummer Mikey Blotto and guitarists Spencer Jo Burgess and Jordan Barrett.

 

 Lord knows we need a laugh these days. Chris Gordon will be providing those laughs  at Good Times on Friday, Sept. 10 for one show at 8 p.m. and two shows on Sept. 11 at  7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance for $15.

 Good Times also has comedy open mics on Tuesday nights beginning at 8 p.m. Admission is free.
