Frankenfest 2 a hot hit at Creepy Hollow haunted house with lots of live music

It was a sweltering day for hot local music at Creepy Hollow outside of Warner, Saturday, Sept.3 as a dozen bands, mostly from Lethbridge,  plus Regina’s The Moon Runners  rocked the brand new stage all day long.

I only lasted through a couple bands because of the heat, but was impressed .

A variety of different styles  graced the gargoyle flanked stage throughout the day  including metal, alternative rock, psychedelic rock and traditional country music.

I arrived as Obsidian Soul were rocking their way through of classic metal, rock and grunge ranging from Metallica to Alice In Chains.

I arrived in the middle of a cover of Whitesnake’s  “ Here I Go Again.”

“ For Whom the Bell Tolls” was a highlight as was Alice In Chains’ “  Man In The Box.

It is always fun to see the Decadent Phase. Frontman James Swinney, lead guitarist Tyler Eresman, drummer Keilan Hakstol were breaking in new bassist Keely Evanoff who played in the pocket.

While the first two acts, Tyrants of Chaos and Obsidian Soul embraced the ’80s. The Decadent Phase are and continue to be all about the groovy, psychedelic ’60s but with a touch of country.

Swinney looked the part, dressed in bell bottoms, played  rhythm guitar, but broke a string early in the set. While one of the other bands changed his string for him, the band embarked on a psychedelic jam.

They played a lot of originals and some obscure covers like David Bowie’s “Black Country Rock.”

Swinney added a harp solo to the country tinged “Mangy Dog,” and as he got his guitar back, launched into a cover of Buffalo Springfield’s “ For What it’sWorth.”

About that time I had to make a break for  some air conditioning as the heat was starting to get to me.

Local original rock band  Dead Army and  local misfits tribute  138 were too continue in the rock vein and then things were to go country with the Plaid Ramblers and the WickedGrins before going back to the rock with Switched Off, Fawns and the Moon Runners plus Rainbow Patrol who were to finish the live music portion of the day.
